It
was known as The Westmount Pavillion when built
in 1932, renamed The Avalon in
1934. It was a dance hall-roller rink-boxing gym and a
great place for teens to hang out.
In 1960 became The Harvey Dance Academy
and was sold in 1963, renovated and its grand opening as
a furniture store in Nov. 22, 1963. (the photo above)
In 1968 it was turned into a slot car track
and April 20, 1969 gutted by fire and torn down later
that year. |

The band formed in May of 1958 at The Avalon.
Members at that time were Frank Surette (electric
guitar), Ed Mazurkiewich (drums), Paul Guirey (electric
guitar) Sonny Alysworth (acoustic guitar/lead vocals)
and Terry Atkinson (acoustic guitar /lead vocals.) The
band was called "The Canadian Rockets." Played
together until February of 1959 and then changes were
made. Paul left and was replaced by Billy Goguen ( lead
electric guitar) and Sonny left and was replaced by Merv
Howard (piano). This band became "The Lincolnaires".
Other changes were to follow. Merv was replaced by Billy
Delziel (piano).
For ten years the band, traveled all over
Ontario - Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa, Kitchener, Trenton,
Bala and parts of the northern United States, especially
the State of New York, but disbanded in 1968.
